Having been rumoured for a while now, GameInformer has the official reveal and preview of Epic Mickey, the new Wii exclusive from gaming legend Warren Spector, and his first game as part of Disney Interactive.  It’s apparently an attempt to “re-launch” the character of Mickey Mouse, making him more like the original character before he became wholly pure, friendly and rather bland.  Spector himself seems to be something of a Disney fanboy – at least, the early Disney – which, when combined with his gaming talents, make him the perfect person to handle such a task.

The story revolves around one of Walt Disney’s earlier creations, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, abandoned when Disney left the company that owned the character (and apparently only recently bought again by Disney specifically for this project).  Epic Mickey‘s story takes the idea of Disney’s abandoned mascots and creates an alternate world for them, which Mickey inadvertently causes a lot of harm to and sets out to make things right.  Mickey uses a paintbrush and paint thinner to make or destroy the environment (presumably using appropriate Wii remote movements), with a rascal/hero morality system that affects Mickey’s appearance through the game.

So with Epic Mickey we have one of the world’s most iconic characters in a game from one of gaming’s greatest talents, which should hopefully make it into a game not to be missed.  The GI piece explains it all in much greater detail, with pictures, quotes and everything, so go read that.  Obviously if you’re in the US you can buy a copy, otherwise WeAreTheInternetz has the entire GI article scanned here, but the pages are out of order so I’ll re-link them below in the proper sequence:
