Film – Quick Thoughts: Girl, Interrupted

Sucker Punch
Girl, Interrupted, directed by James Mangold
Written by: James Mangold, Lisa Loomer and Anna Hamilton Phelan
Starring: Winona Ryder, Angelina Jolie and Whoopi Goldberg
My rating: 4 of 5

Tonight’s film was Girl, Interrupted. I’ve seen the film before and it’s still good, with everybody giving good performances. Though Ryder’s character is the one who tells the story the other residents gets their arcs too, some hopeful, some sad and some simply tragic.

Angelina Jolie won awards for her portrayal of Lisa, but she’s certainly not the only one who shines here. I think it might be Winona Ryder’s best performance and Brittany Murphy is very good as Daisy. Indeed, I’ve thought Murphy was good in a lot of the films I’ve seen her in – this, Sin City and 8 Mile – so there could have been plenty more were it not for her untimely death (or possibly just plenty more forgettable direct-to-video films).
