Web: Quick Link – Tune For Two

This is exactly what these Quick Links are good for, something brilliant that nevertheless doesn’t leave me with much to say about it:

I have no idea how this came about because it’s so random, but I’m very, very glad that somebody thought of it.

Web: Close, but not quite

One of the categories in my Second Coming series of posts for Mass Effect was for minigames, and for the heading image I made this:

6) Minigames

The picture in the top left is of Mass Effect‘s sole minigame, the QTE sequence that has you pressing the buttons that light up on screen. It was the only decent picture I could find but it wasn’t perfect because it’s not in English. Where it should say something like ‘hacking’ or ‘bypassing’ it says the Polish version instead, ‘przejmowanie’, and Ashley’s dialogue is also subtitled in Polish:

Not how I played the game.

It wasn’t much of a problem because it showed what was important and the image was ultimately shrunk down enough that it was difficult to even tell, but as Google Images let’s you search for similar images I thought it was worth a try:

“If We Don’t, Remember Me”

Tears in Rain

“I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time like tears in rain. … Time to die.”

Blade Runner (1982)

The above is an example of a typical post from the wonderful Tumblr blog, “If We Don’t, Remember Me“*; a key quote from a great film and an image just animated enough to preserve that moment. I’ve been following it for a couple of months now and every update is a treat, so even though most of the web has long since linked to the blog I felt like it deserved being mentioned here in my tiny corner. I’d only held off doing so because any post would amount to nothing more than a link – in fact it’s the kind of thing perfectly suited to Tumblr and its re-blogging option – and I don’t want this blog dominated by simple link posts.

However, with yet another image posted to the blog from Blade Runner (a film I rather like) and attached to a quote I love I decided it’s fine to do a little link post for something special. So go to the blog and enjoy.

* The quote used for the blog’s title is apparently from the 1955 film Kiss Me Deadly, which I haven’t seen.

Web: Twitter

Wikipedia fact: "Twitter is ranked as one of the 50 most popular websites worldwide by Alexa's web traffic analysis. Although estimates of the number of daily users vary... a February 2009 blog entry ranked Twitter as the third most used social network based on their count of 6 million unique monthly visitors and 55 million monthly visits."

I had no interest in making a Twitter account, not because I’m one of those people who doesn’t understand its purpose, but because I didn’t really have any need for it.  If I want to share my thoughts on something that nobody will read I already have a perfectly serviceable blog, which doesn’t restrict me to 140 character chunks and has more options for inserting content.

What I did have an interest in was reading certain other people on Twitter (in Twitter terms I had interest in being a follower, even if I had no reason to be followed myself).  What I had been doing was using my Google Reader feed (which I use all the time) to get the data, but the presentation there isn’t great for this:
